I have some random Landmark tales/thoughts. And some of them have been on FB so a lot of you have probably heard one or two before. But here goes...
*Right now I am sitting in a tutorial cubicle proctoring the math MCAS to my awesome 5th grade tutee (pronounced "too-dee" because that's funny). He's a little ADHD but also very great. He came in, lay belly-down on the spin chair and started spinning around, claiming he was trying to lower the chair because he needed his feet to be touching the ground. I believe him, but of course he had to get a little spin-a-roo in while he was at it. It just wasn't working so...the illustrated Oxford Dictionary is now at his feet.
*His mother said to me at Parent's Day that 1: Luke said tutorial was his favorite class and 2: and I quote her: "You are SO GOOD at what you do." Iiiii"lllllll TAKE IT. I did not, unfortunately, make any parents cry (which is always my goal on parent's day...not out of misery but out of appreciation for their child's new-found love for and ability to read). Oh well, there's always next year.
*Another tutorial student, we'll call him Henry. He uses hankerchiefs (gross, but also does that mean he's more mature than me at the tender grade of 3rd?) and one day he asked to use a kleenex. I asked him why he didn't have his hankerchief and he told me he did, but then he realized it was his sister's underwear. Number 36 why NOT to use hankerchiefs. You might be blowing your nose into your sister's underwear.
*I was reminded this morning that I do NOT do well with middle schooler kids who are good at pushing buttons and manipulation. In fact, they cause steam to speed out of my ears. So done with that class. Only 6ish more weeks left. Thank You, God, It's May 11th. Or, TYGIM11.
*I'm at a dangerous place right now. That is, I'm so used to getting iced coffee in the morning that it's a HUGE deal when I have the will power to PASS Dunkin' on my way to work. In fact, it makes me want to celebrate. Iced coffee party, anyone?
*I'm sorry, I have to go. The bell is about to ring. But don't worry, my precious toodee is doing that thing where he rushed through everything just to get done. This is not cool! But as proctor, I can't do anything. All I can do is be happy that we found a solution to the height of his chair, and drink my iced coffee. Cheers.
